Carnation Colors Experiment

If you're looking for a low-maintenance science experiment around Valentine's Day this year, try this fun carnation experiment.

Materials:

White Carnations - 1 for every color you are working with
Vases - 1 for every flower
Food Coloring
Water

Directions:

1. Fill each vase 1/3 full of water.
2. Add 10-20 drops of food coloring to the water - 1 color in each vase. Leave one vase full of regular water.
3. Put a flower in each vase and let them sit over night. (Make sure you have trimmed the stems before placing the flowers in water to allow them to soak up the water.)
4. Make observations throughout the day - check for any color changes.
5. On the second day, examine all the flowers to see what parts of the plant changed colors.

We hope you enjoy this super simple and easy to implement science experiment!
